CEO Warner Bros. Discovery open to collaboration with the writer J.K. Rowling as part of work on new franchise projects “Harry Potter“. He spoke about this during a conversation with investors in the context of discussing various franchises owned by the company. The company is going to bet on the development of its IP.
“We want to focus on our big franchises. We haven’t had a Superman movie in 13 years. We haven’t made a Harry Potter movie in 15 years.
The DC movies and the Harry Potter films were the biggest contributors to Warner Bros. Motion Pictures for the last 25 years. So the focus on franchises is one of the big advantages we have. House of the Dragon is an example, Game of Thrones, taking advantage of Sex and the City, Lord of the Rings, we still have the right to shoot Lord of the Rings.
Many films have become brands that are understood and loved around the world.”
Referring specifically to “Harry Potter”, David Zaslav noted that collaboration with Rowling is important for returning to the series.
“We need to see what we can do together,” he said.
Recall that the next project in the universe of “Harry Potter” will be a game — this is role-playing game Hogwarts Legacy scheduled for release on February 10.
