In the Russian retail sales of smartphones fell sharply due to supply problems

Sales of smartphones in retail networks of telecom operators turn on due to supply issues. At the end of the second quarter, revenue MTS decreased by 47% to 7.9 billion rubles, and Tele2 — by 12%. Vimpelcom confirmed the downward trend in sales dynamics.

MTS specifies that the drop in results, in particular, is due to problems in the supply of Apple and Samsung solutions to Russia, since sales of devices from these brands made a significant contribution to retail revenue. Now the interest of buyers is changing towards the Chinese Xiaomi and Realme, and demand in general is gradually increasing.

Tele2 cites “dynamic pricing for mass demand devices” as the reason. Prices rose against the backdrop of supply shortages, fluctuations in prices and general uncertainty, so the decrease in revenue is associated with a drop in customer demand.

Despite the decline in sales, operators are not going to actively close stores. In MTS, the number of stores increased by 1.5% compared to the same period last year, to 5.4 thousand. In Tele2, the number of outlets decreased by 2%. The operator plans in the coming years to “fix retail in the current volume” – 2.7 thousand outlets.
