Intel Z790 motherboards are ready for release

Intel Z790 motherboards will be available soon for 13th Gen Raptor Lake desktop processors and will offer improved DDR5 and DDR4 memory support. In a product datasheet published by videocardz, purportedly from MSI, we see that motherboards based on the Z790 chipset will offer faster DDR5 and DDR4 memory speeds compared to existing Z690 motherboards. A total of three motherboards were listed, one with DDR5 support and the other two with DDR4 support. In comparison, the AMD X670E motherboards currently available have speeds from DDR5-6600 to DDR5-6000. We recently reported on two motherboards from Biostar, ASRock X670E and X670E Valkyrie, whose specs were recently detailed – they have about the same memory speed.

The Intel Z790 motherboards will launch in October alongside the 13th generation Raptor Lake processor lineup. The motherboards will support both PCIe Gen 5.0 and DDR5 memory, however they will not have an M.2 PCIe Gen 5.0 slot directly connected to the CPU Gen 5 lanes unless the board makers decide to split the x16 GPU discrete lanes. Intel’s 13th Gen Raptor Lake desktop processors, including the flagship Core i9-13900K, are expected to launch in October on the Z790 platform. The processors will compete with AMD’s Ryzen 7000 line of processors, which will also launch in Fall 2022.
