Company Ubisoft canceled the sequel to the mythological adventure game with an open world Immortals: Fenyx Risingreleased in 2020.
The sequel was in the early stages of development at the studio, according to multiple VGC development sources. Ubisoft Quebec, but in early July, the company’s management decided to cancel it, as it considered that it would be difficult to turn the game into a new rising franchisey. Instead, the company decided to refocus on developing its best-known brands.
The original Immortals, also developed by Ubisoft Quebec, responsible for Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, received generally positive reviews, but the project was able to interest a small audience and only largely due to discounts. According to VGC, in Europe the game’s sales were about 70% lower than in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla for a similar period of time.
According to others, the new Immortals was planned as an offshoot and instead of Greek mythology was supposed to explore the myths of the Hawaiian Polynesians. About this last year informed journalist Jeff Grubb.
