SK hynix launches new CXL 2.0 memory expansion solution for next generation servers

SK hynix has announced a new CXL 2.0 memory expansion solution for next generation servers, offering up to 96GB DDR5 DRAM in PCIe Gen 5.0 “EDSFF” interface form factor.

CXL 2.0 Memory Express is available in the EDSFF (Standard Enterprise and Data Center Form Factor) E3.S form factor and supports PCIe 5.0 x8 Lane interface, uses DDR5 standard DRAM and is equipped with CXL controllers.

A significant advantage of CXL memory is expandability. CXL memory provides flexible memory expansion compared to the current server market where memory and performance are fixed once the server platform is adopted. CXL also has high growth potential as the interface is designed for high performance computing systems such as AI and big data applications.

The first CXL memory device designed by SK hynix is a 96 GB product consisting of 24 Gigabit DDR5 DRAM memory modules, which is the latest technology node.

SK hynix plans to unveil the product at upcoming events such as Intel Innovation in late September and Open Compute Project (OCP) in October.
