Symbiote powers, new areas and more enemies: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 first details

Studio Insomniac Games after the show held at the presentation of the PlayStation Showcase 2023 Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 shared on the PlayStation Blog the first details of the upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive.

  • A new enemy faction will appear in the game under the command of Kraven the Hunter, as well as Dr. Curt Connors, aka the Lizard.
  • One of the new areas of the game will be the East River in Queens. Part of the demo shown takes place in Harlem, a block of Manhattan from the first part.
  • Spider-Man will get the Black Suit, which is an alien symbiote. In this costume, the hero acts much more aggressively and is endowed with new abilities, such as creeping tentacles that can be used to attack opponents.
  • However, the Black suit will be more than just a wardrobe item. In the new game, the authors will delve into Peter’s personal relationship with the symbiote and the impact of this union on his loved ones.
  • Mile Morales from the 2020 addon will return and will not only be the second playable hero, but also a key figure in the story.
  • Players will be able to seamlessly switch between both Spiders at story points, and the pace of movement will be significantly increased thanks to the addition of a new item in equipment – web wings. Both heroes can use them to quickly move around the city using wind tunnels between skyscrapers.
  • As in previous installments, players will be able to operate in stealth, engage in open battles, or a combination of both styles. Regardless of the approach chosen, they will be complemented by new gadgets and abilities, such as the ability to create a cable from the web to move through it and quietly overtake the enemy. In addition, for the first time, the capture of two opponents at once will appear.
  • As for gadgets, the developers have demonstrated a web grab that pulls enemies into one place. This allows Miles to use one of his new abilities, an electrical shock to the ground. Also briefly shown was the ability to deliver a chain strike of electricity, knocking down all nearby enemies in range.
  • Each Spider-Man will have their own unique set of skills, which can be upgraded with a brand new custom skill tree. In addition, another common skill tree will appear in the game, which will allow you to improve some of the same abilities of the heroes in parallel.
  • The game world will be more complete, crowded and detailed. Lighting, shadows and reflections have also been improved. It also includes PS5 features such as 3D spatial audio, adaptive triggers and DualSense haptic feedback.

The game comes out this fall. The exact release date is planned to be announced in the near future.
