The first game under the wing of Sony: Bungie announced a reimagining of Marathon for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC

Studio Bungie, owned by Sony Corporation since early 2022has announced its first new project in over a decade, reimagining Marathon. The original trilogy was released between 1994 and 1996 on the Macintosh platform.

Marathon is a sci-fi PvP shooter where players take on the role of cybernetic mercenaries who must fight for wealth and glory. The authors confirmed in advance that there will be no story campaign in the game..

About developing Marathon earlier informed Tom Henderson. He described the game as “the ultimate live service experience” in which you select your gear and go on a mission to collect resources.. In the event of death, all collected prey is irretrievably lost.

Shortly after the announcement of the franchise reimagining, Bungie released a documentary detailing their vision. When creating the visual component, the authors tried to find a middle ground between beauty and mystery: they promise “bold, colorful, stylized, bright, at the same time mysterious, familiar, but at the same time unusual style.”

Marathon promises extensive character and gameplay customization. Each match will be interactive, and any player’s action in it will be able to affect the final outcome. For example, one of the developers describes his match: he has already collected all the necessary artifacts and is about to complete the run, but he hears gunfire in a nearby building and decides to go there. It is at such moments that the course of the game changes.

Soon Bungie will begin alpha testing of the project and delve into development. The next time the developers will return with news about Marathon closer to the release, when they are ready to show full gameplay.

The game will be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Despite the fact that Bungie has become part of Sony, it will continue to release multi-platform games.
