The Japanese store put forward an unusual condition for those wishing to buy the PlayStation 5 in a shortage

Japanese retail chain GEO announced the introduction of a new measure to combat resellers PlayStation 5. Since the launch of the console Sony distributed in Japan on a lottery basis, but now lottery participants must agree to sell their old PlayStation 4 to GEO if they win the right to purchase a PlayStation 5. The retailer placed the relevant information on its advertising banners.

Despite the fact that the shortage of the PlayStation 5 is gradually becoming less noticeable, it is still a problem to freely buy a new console in Japan. This is the reason for the new measures on the part of the GEO leadership.

Previously, the store tried to fight dealers in other ways. For example, buyers were required to open the boxes with the PlayStation 5 directly upon receipt of the order at the point of sale. after that, the console cannot be considered “sealed”.

Japanese gamers have not received the idea of selling the PlayStation 4 very positively. Many write about the lack of a PlayStation 5 predecessor, and also draw the attention of the store to the fact that such a measure is unlikely to stop resellers, but only force them to also buy used consoles for further sale to the store.

GEO is also accused of wanting to profit from the resale of the PlayStation 4 consoles bought from players can then go on sale in the used goods section at a higher price. Sony no longer supplies PlayStation 4s to stores, and there is still some demand for them in the gaming community.
