“They are all ultra-violent characters”: NetherRealm explained the appearance of Homelander and Omni-Man in Mortal Kombat 1

A few days ago NetherRealm Studios presented first Kombat Pack for Mortal Kombat 1. It included Homelander from “Boys», peacekeeper from DC Cinematic Universeand Omni-Man from the animated seriesInvulnerable».

Shortly after the presentation, the developers explained this choice of characters in an interview. IGN.

The representative of the publication indicated that usually the studio chooses heroes based on a specific theme. for example, action and horror characters have appeared in previous installments. Creative director Ed Boone agreed and noted that this time NetherRealm drew attention to the stars of comics for an adult audience:

“Obviously, these are 18+ rated comic book heroes and villains. Homelander, Peacekeeper and Omni-Man are classified as ultra-violent characters. I think we worked on this theme with additional characters from the Mortal Kombat universe – Takeda, Quan Chi and Yermak.

Well, anyway… a simple demonstration of Homelander and Omni-Man in one frame will be an adaptation of the scenario “Who is stronger?” for fans. And now the players will be able to see the results of this struggle», — said Ed Boon.

The developer of Mortal Kombat 1 also noted that the demonstration of fatalities on Homelander will be a “cathartic experience” for fans of The Boys..

The fighting game releases September 19 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
