Tom Henderson: In 2024, Sony will replace all PlayStation 5 models with a new one with a detachable drive

insider Tom Henderson announced the plans of Sony Interactive Entertainment to bring to market a new model PlayStation 5.

According to people familiar with the company’s plans, the next iteration of the console will go on sale around in September 2024 and the hardware will practically not change in comparison with the current revisions, but will offer a unique difference in the form of a detachable drive.

The drive will be portable and connected via an additional USB-C port on the rear panel, and all this is implemented in such a way that the drive will not stand out from the overall aesthetics of the console. The design of the new PS5 will remain similar to the current one.

It is noted that the updated prefix will replace all existing models. Instead of a separate disk and diskless versions, one kind of console will go on sale, but in different trim levels, with and without a drive. It will be possible to purchase it separately.
